Los Angeles- The 23-year-old Afro-Japanese player won her second Australian Open on Saturday February 20 defeating Jennifer Brady, 6-4, 6-3. At the end of the match a butterfly landed on Osaka’s face. It was almost a symbol of innocence or some type of sacred honor between her and the butterfly.
During Osaka’s acceptance speech she asked Jennifer Brady if she liked to be called, Jenny or Jennifer, “Brady replied Jenny,” but Osaka called her Jennifer. The tennis star thanked her teammates, congratulating them on new adventures.
Naomi has been raked No. 1 by the Women’s Tennis Association, and is the first Asian player to hold the top ranking in singles. The 23-year-old knocked Serena out of the Australian Open in the semi-finals, a match that some believe will be the American champion’s last at Melbourne Park. In 2018 Osaka won the Grand Slam title by beating Serena Williams 6-2, 6-4 at the US Open on Saturday afternoon.
